| Can You Feel The Wind Of The Spirit? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| As the March lion roars in, my thoughts turn to the "wind farms" - mountain ridges sprouting rows of giant electricity producing turbines - that dot the landscape near my home. The first time I saw these modern-day windmills, I came home and checked them out on the internet. What I found reminded me of our need to become functonal "turbines" generating the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. |

| Because the winds are gustier in the higher elevations, these turbines are built on the mountain ridges, atop towers that rise an additional three hundred feet in the air. When we are at our lowest points due to apathy or spiritual/emotional pain, we often fail to sense the movement of the Spirit around us. We feel abandoned and alone, unable to trust. By focusing on our relationship with Christ rather than our circumstances, we are able to rise above our pain. We live more efficiently, making better use of the power He gives us to thrive. Know why turbines are usually grouped together in wind farms? Right! They work more efficiently in groups, creating and storing more electricity than one can do alone. It is easy to see the application here. As women who feel the breath of the Spirit in our lives, we can accomplish more together than we could ever hope to accomplish alone. And in a group, those who are feeling strong at the moment, may gather around the weaker sister or brother and hold them up through prayer in the power of the Spirit. There are basically two types of turbines - those with two props that catch the backdraft and those with three props, facing into the wind. Those facing into the wind are dessigned to encounter more ressistance or friction, increasing their energy production along the ridges. Perhaps that is why God often drects us to face our pain - to walk THROUGH it rather than healing us from it. As we face our pain, we also face int the wind of His Spirit, allowing His power to flow through us and be turned into the spiritual energy we need to overcome our adversaries! And as the Spirit's power is generated in our lives, we "light up," drawing those around us to Jesus. (Matthew 5:14) Wind speeds must remain between fifteen and sixty-three miles per hour in order to maintain peak efficiency for the turbines. When the speed of the wind is too high, there is danger of the generator burning up while trying to keep up with the wind speed. Sounds a lot like me - trying to do things in my own strength and burning out in the process. By striving to maintain a constant deep relationship with the Lord, we can avoid the emotional "roller coaster" of a high spiritual output that quickly wanes when the winds die down. |

| When the wind speeds drop below fifteen miles per hour, stored electricity must be tapped to power the turbines. Since this is a waste of electricity, the turbines automatically shut down until wind speeds pick up. During those down times, the generator maintains enough power in reserve to restart the propellers whe the wind picks back up. Unfortunately we cannot store up the power of the Spirit for the "dry" times in our lives. We need a fresh touch each day to remain at peak spiritual health and performance. But during our dry times, the memory of His touch lingers in our lives, causing us to hunger for it again. As we listen to the wooing of the Spirit, we are motivated to seek another caress of His breath on our hearts. |

| Father, help us remember the lessons of the wind turbines - to feel Your Spirit in us generating the power to impact our world for You! Amen. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| In like a lion and out like a lamb....March is starting off as a busy month. On March 9, I will be speaking at Trinity Bible Church in Hagerstown, MD. Then it's off to the Women in Ministry Retreat at Falling Waters Campground on March 10 and 11. I'm not sure yet about the rest of the month yet, but one thing for sure - I hope spring gets here soon! - Bonnie Winters- |
