When you need comfort, guidance or inspiration, which Bible character do you look to?
If you're like most women, you probably think of a male character like King David or the Apostle Paul. And there's nothing wrong with that. In my role as a pastor's wife, I often look to Moses for leadership help. Joseph is a prime example of overcoming the effects of slavery and abuse.
No I'm not suggesting that we ignore the influence of the male Bible characters in our lives. A large portion of the sermons we hear deal with their faith, their exploits and the factual aspects of their lives which we are challenged to emulate. But what about the Bible women, our sisters who share our emotions, our frustrations and our needs?
10 years ago, a Christian psychologist challenged his lay counseling class to learn more about the Bible's women in order to minister more effectively to hurting women around us. At the time I was going through a difficult time of personal reflection and emotional healing. I took his advice and searched the scriptures for a Bible heroine who had gone through similar experiences to my own and come through her struggles victoriously.
Two novels and a dozen short stories later, I have come to appreciate these Bible women as the living, breathing sisters I never had. Their lives touched and connected with mine as their stories came alive on paper.
Join me here, explore these stories and discover your own Bible heroine today!
